Who likes the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire books by Charlaine Harris or the tv show True Blood? I'm still reading the books and I just got the DVD for the first season. The second season starts next month.

Another great series with vampires is The Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts. Awesome books!

I am actually reading the circle trilagy right now and I must admit it is quite good. smiles I have read the other ones you mentioned yet though. I have heard they are good and am going to get a hold of them one of these days. smile

I read either the first 5 or 6 of the Sookie Stackhouse books. Did you notice that the first season of the show was about where the first book ended?
I liked the books better than the show. There a few changes, such as with Tara.
Pebbles, I have them as txt files if you're interested. I don't have broadband to get the audio version. How did you read them Bella?

Thom

Does anyone like Vampire Kisses? I think they are better or at least just as good as Twilight. I've read the first five books and am trying to find the sixth one. What about Vampire Academy? I haven't read those yet, but they sound good.

Post 12 by metal angel (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Sunday, 28-Jun-2009 19:33:40

True Blood is such a great series. I'm real behind on season 2 thought. Have to catch up. I just wish we'd see more Eric in the tv show he's much cooler than Bill in my oppinion.

Post 19 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Monday, 14-Sep-2009 8:06:29

Yeah Bill is ok, but love Eric.

Post 20 by icequeen (move over school!) on Monday, 14-Sep-2009 14:12:38

Post 21 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Tuesday, 27-Oct-2009 1:16:26

The House Of Night is my favorite vampire series so far! Besides vamps being totally awesome, I love it b/c they have a goddess, have rituals, cast circles, work with the elements to help them... Also deals with family issues: Christians not accepting her Pagan religion, friendships secrets and learning how to trust and be there for one another, and love including gay relationships and the struggle of being attracted to more than one person at the same time.
I def recommend these books!

Post 22 by CrystalSapphire (Uzuri uongo ndani) on Wednesday, 28-Oct-2009 9:34:29

wouldn't it be nice to have a sweet protective romantic vampire like edward in your life? lol jk i liked twilight series. thought the moovie was ok, but lacked a lot. we'll see about new moon.

Post 23 by CrystalSapphire (Uzuri uongo ndani) on Wednesday, 28-Oct-2009 9:36:53

i also love the vampire kisses series

Post 24 by icequeen (move over school!) on Friday, 30-Oct-2009 13:37:27

Ooowh thanks for the tip on the House of Night books. Bookshare has them. :)

Post 25 by Blind Bigfoot (Zone BBS Addict) on Friday, 30-Oct-2009 17:33:18

The previous comment about having an Edward got me thinking. If you could be any vampire from any series who would it be? For me it would be Eric. The man fits the definition of manly man. Not to say I'm not manly but... He's just so cool. Lol.

Post 26 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Friday, 30-Oct-2009 19:27:59

I would be Pam or Zoey.

Post 27 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Thursday, 21-Jan-2010 2:14:04

Thanks for the tip about the Nora Roberts trilogy! I'll definitely have to give that one a look.

No offense to Eric lovers, but I honestly don't think Eric's all that cool. I dunno...he seems like kind of an asshole. And yeah I know, vampyre, but still...at least Bill really seems to care for Sookie. Eric just annoys me. Though, as I said, I've only read like the first book through, so perhaps I'll get to like him a little better.

Post 30 by TexasRed (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 09-May-2011 21:02:53

I have read the Vampire books by Anne Rice and enjoyed them. I have also read the first 2 books in the Strain Trilogy written by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan

Book #1 The Strain
Book #2 The Fall
book #3 Eternal Night
And I have read The Passage written by Justin Cronin
which is also a trilogy but the Passage is the only book out.

Empty night, when will it end! Okay, I really mean no offense to any of you. I don't. But I'm seeing very little actual vampire literature references and characters here. To start with, vampires are not fodder for romance novels. Well, I take that back. They have recently become that way, but they shouldn't be. Thus, disliking Eric for being a manly man and liking Bill for caring for Sookie, (who by the way is a roaring bitch, no mortal man could put up with her, so a vampire shouldn't have to either), is misguided. The Sookie Stackhouse series is basically a bunch of murder mysteries with romance thrown in for flavoring. The fact that the men involved are supernatural doesn't change that, especially considering the fact that these supernaturals don't act like supernaturals. They act like two-dimentional characters in books. Good guy, bad guy, black, white.
I would say the same for the House of Night series. A vampire is a predator, forced to exist in the shadows until he is steaked, burned, or until God comes and the world ends. The last thing on their minds is how unaccepting a Christian family is of Paegan beliefs, or romantic issues, whether they be gay, straight or bestial
The modern vampire is painted like a loving, caring pixie. And well, that's a pixie, not a vampire.
Twilight, I can't even begin to cover all the things wrong with that travesty, that mockery of literature and the undeads true fans of vampires have come to know and love. It's a one-hundred year old seventeen year old who still acts like a seventeen year old. He sparkles in the sunlight and doesn't eat people. Staking him won't kill him. He's not a vampire, he is a shiny teen dream. Its ridiculous.

Talking about all this, to be honest, has put a bad taste in my mouth. Take a look at this instead. It should put things into perspective.

thanks Undead Libertine
that was wonderful, I couldn't agree more about the twilight stuff, just not for me.

Post 33 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Thursday, 12-May-2011 15:40:58

It wouldn't be so offensive if Twilight was just a series of romance novels. It would still be two dimentional and silly, because honestly, the writer can't write, but if she left vampires out of it, it would have been completely unremarkable to the public of today. Vampire and werewolf might as well be Asian family versus black family, for all the actual similarities they show to vampires and werewolves. That's really all it is, a romance novel concerning two different races.

The vampire Chronicles by Ann rice, in my opinion, is also a bit overly romantic, but to her credit, those are vampires. They have varying personalities and beliefs in regards to spending eternity, death, murder, politics, philosophy, religion. It's not all teen anxt and lamenting about just how tragicly deep they are and how nobody understands them. Heh
I guess sleeping in coffins and wearing capes suddenly isn't cool.

I'm reading the vampire chronicles right now... I'm currently reading the third book, The queen of the dammed. I really like this series so far.

Book 8 cryptic cravings from the vampire kisses series is out today.

I personally love the morganville series by Rachel Cain. Its a terrific mix of modern day society with vampiric mysticism and old fashion way of life. I like how there is some sort of a cast system with in Morganville and its interesting how such a town can exist in the middle of Texas even though its not real.
I also really into the chicago land vampire series by Chloe Neill. Its more of a modern day lifestyle with the main character learning to live, adjust to her life as a vampire and conforming to laws of vampirism.

Post 37 by Lisa's Girl forever (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Monday, 20-Jun-2011 10:15:21

I like any kinds of vamp books.
